The Power of Presence

What would your ideal day off look like? What would you fill your day with if you spent it doing the things that bring you joy and happiness? Be it a day spent binge-watching Netflix in bed, enjoying a tropical cocktail on the beach, or planting flowers in your garden. Imagine what it would feel like to be wholly present and grounded in that moment.

Your life is meant to be lived and is allowed to be enjoyable, exciting, comfortable, and satisfying. Many of us miss out on experiencing these emotions because we're trapped, rehashing the past, or entrenched in the arrival fallacy (the belief that once we reach our goal, we'll be happy). However, we're often less satisfied once we check the proverbial block because it usually doesn't live up to the hype. The positivity doesn't last. Even if it does, we're left disappointed. Taurus season (April 20th - May 20th) reminds us that happiness is for now! It shouldn't be put off, as the only guaranteed moment is the one we're in.

The ability to keep our attention rooted in the present is a superpower! It's arguably the most valuable and underrated skill in our self-care toolkit. Cultivating the skill of being present can help us accept and enjoy every part of the ride, good or bad. Here are some benefits of presence:

  • Improves mental and emotional well-being

  • Increases focus

  • Grounds us during moments of stress

  • Helps us manage pain by offering space to step back and observe the sensation and surrounding thoughts rather than being overwhelmed by it

  • Aids in regulating emotions.

Hey, life is full of meaning, beauty, and joy. Use your superpower to find it in this moment!

Warm hugs, positive vibes,

Niecia

P.S. The meditation below is a treat for your senses! The purpose is to anchor you in the present moment. You can practice this ritual in the morning to start your day, in the afternoon when you feel sluggish, or anytime you need to ground. Grab a warm drink and let's get started!
